What is an opioid antidote?

Naloxone is the opioid antidote medication used to treat someone who has overdosed on opioids. It helps temporarily reverse the effects of the overdose until medical help arrives. During an overdose, breathing slows and in some cases stops. If used right away, Naloxone can help the person breathe again.
