Travel Prescription

Heading south?

Your Pharmacist can help you stay healthy while travelling by providing a personal assessment and prescribing medications used to treat Travellers’ Diarrhea and to prevent Malaria*.

Travellers’ Diarrhea treatment

Cramps are extremely unpleasant and frequent trips to the bathroom can ruin your vacation. Diarrhea related dehydration is also an important health concern. For peace of mind when you travel, talk to your Pharmacist before you leave for expert advice on Travellers’ Diarrhea, antibiotic medications and other items to bring to help you stay healthy while travelling.

Malaria prevention

Malaria is usually spread through a bite from an infected mosquito. The symptoms may appear seven days after arriving in the country and up to several months after returning home. The symptoms include abdominal pain, chills, sweating, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headaches, high fever and muscle pain. Extreme cases can even lead to coma. If you plan on travelling to a place where Malaria is a risk, check with your Pharmacist at least one week before you leave, as the medication must be taken one week before your departure and continued for four weeks after your return.

Safe travels!
