Replenish your skin

Lack of sleep and too much alcohol are the kinds of things that can cause your skin to look less than luminous. Get your glow back with these tips.

  • Drink plenty of water. Being dehydrated can lead to dry lips and skin. Getting the right amount of fluid each day prevents this. Adult men should aim for 12 cups of water a day. Adult women should aim for 9 cups of water a day. Ask your doctor if you're not sure what your fluid intake should be.
  • Banish those bags under your eyes by getting enough rest each night. If you're between the ages of 18 to 64, aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep each night. If you're 65 years or older, aim for 7 to 8 hours.
  • If the stress of the holidays made you reach for a cigarette, or 2, or 10, now's the time to quit. Smoking makes your skin look older.
  • Exercise. This will help bring vital oxygen and nutrients to your skin, giving it a healthy glow. But keep in mind that sweat can cause acne and other skin problems. Taking a shower after your work-out will wash away sweat, oils, and bacteria.
