Are other special populations more at risk?

Featuring content from MediResource Inc.

  • Children: Children do not appear to be at higher risk for COVID-19 than adults.
  • Pregnancy: It is currently unclear if pregnant women have a greater risk for severe illness from COVID-19 than the general adult population. With other coronaviruses and viral respiratory infections, pregnant women have had a higher risk of developing serious illness. It is also unknown at this time how COVID-19 infection in a pregnant woman affects the health of the unborn baby.
  • Breast-feeding: There is currently no specific guidance regarding breast-feeding during infection. The decision to continue or start breast-feeding should be discussed with your health care providers.

While knowledge and understanding around COVID-19 is rapidly growing, and expert opinion could change, these are best practices aimed at reducing the impact of COVID-19. It is important to stay mindful of your exposure and the risk posed by COVID-19 to yourself and others.
