EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MOISTURIZING IN WINTER

Author: SHOPPERS DRUG MART

Hyper Hydration Survive the harsh winter elements with ultra-moisturizing skin care Now that the Holidays have come and gone, it’s time to do some serious post-party season damage control. Regardless of what your skin-type may be, moisturizing is a basic necessity—especially since the coldest and driest weeks are still to come. Picking the right product for your skin can be tricky. But don’t fret: You can narrow down your search based on your skin-type and concerns. If your skin is dry, look for a heavy-duty cream. The thicker texture not only provides more moisture, but will create a heavier barrier to protect your skin against the cold weather. Look for ingredients like vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin. If you’re afraid of looking shiny during the day, try using a lighter formula in the AM and a heavier formula while you sleep (this is when your skin rejuvenates itself!). If your skin is oily or acne-prone, try using a light, gel-type moisturizer. A lighter formula will sink right into your skin and will be enough to keep your skin moisturized without leaving an oily layer on the surface. A common misconception is that oily skin-types don’t need to moisturize, but in reality, this will only make things worse. Depriving your skin of moisturizer will cause it to over compensate and in return, produce even more oil. If you’re concerned about fine lines, make sure you’re using a moisturizer with anti-aging ingredients. But with any product, there is no such thing as a miracle, so prevention is key. Being consistent with your skin care regimen and using the right products can do wonders and will save you trips to the dermatologist in the future. Try using a product containing retinol (a form of vitamin A). This ingredient will work to diminish fine lines and spots in addition to moisturizing your skin. Tips and Tricks: *Try adding a few drops of facial oil into your moisturizer during the winter for added benefits. Argan oil is a popular choice. *Warm up the moisturizer in the palm of your hands and then press it gently into your skin (versus rubbing). This will make it easier for your skin to absorb, meaning you can use less product. Did you know? *Many facial oils contain antioxidants which help boosts skin’s radiance. But if you’re using a facial oil in the morning, be sure to use about two drops and wait a few minutes (brush your teeth while you wait?) for the oil to sink into your skin before you start applying your SPF and foundation.
