Your Pharmacist may now prescribe medications for some minor ailments.
With recent legislation changes, pharmacists are now permitted to exercise new professional activities in certain circumstances, including:
• Prescribing a medication when a diagnosis is not required, particularly for preventative purposes;
• Prescribing medications for certain health problems for which the diagnosis and treatment are already known;
• Extending a doctor’s prescription;
• Adjusting a doctor’s prescription.
Pharmacists are medication experts and these new changes will allow them to better assist you with their skills and expertise. In some cases, your pharmacist may contact your doctor to provide information regarding your case.
